[EVENTS] David Tlale Collaborates with JOCKEY & Courvoisier® Cognac For His AUTUMN/WINTER 2017/2018 Show
Despite string winds forcing ehe Mercedes Benz Cape Town Fashion Week to be postponed on Saturday to a later date in April, one designer did manage to pull a fashion extravaganza in Capetown on the weekend. Celebrated fashion designer David Tlale, in partnership with Courvoisier® Cognac, celebrated “Let’s Play Dress Up”- his latest collection - in pure luxury, when he showcased at the prestigious Cape Town Club.
“I wanted to create an experience and place guests inside the David Tlale world where one drinks cognac, smoke cigars and enjoys a beautiful mood of luxury. From here, the theme Let’s Play Dress Up originated,” explains Tlale.
“People will be dressing up and making an effort – it’s a mood of celebration more than anything else where we toasted to our journey of 15 years in the industry and set the tone of years to come!”
Leading the celebrations was former Miss SA, Tatum Keshwar, who was chosen as the face of this season’s campaign - shot by fashion photographer Sean Laurénz earlier yesterday afternoon – and the star that closed Tlale’s show. Other personalities in attendance included internationally renowned stylist, Jenke Ahmed Tailly, businenesswoman Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe, award-winning rap artist Anatii, SA’s talk show queen Felicia Mabuza-Suttle and the much admired style icon K Naomi, to name a few.
The collection drew its inspiration from Dandyism, masculine cuts and tailoring, which were masterly combined with Tlale’s distinguished “African Chic” design aesthetic and resulted in a new silhouette that is noble and sexy with a seemingly unconcerned edge.
The garments were a decadent relationship between textures - velvet, silk, crêpe, lace and feathers - and colour from light grey, deep grey and charcoal to black with pops of Courvoisier®’s iconic purple and gold and the cognac’s burnt orange.
In addition, the show also marked the second of a four season collaboration with Jockey, moving the attention to the question “what is beneath” – a celebration of one’s inner self and the pleasure of feeling beautiful and powerful.
“David Tlale epitomises the luxury and opulence of Courvoisier® cognac. We were honoured to celebrate this moment with him, being his 15th anniversary. His innovative craftsmanship dares to stand out from the conventional, building a legacy together with Courvoisier®’s brand identity,” says Daniel Hawkins, Managing Director of ABV Brands.
“Let’s Play Dress Up” will create a journey of luxury in African fashion, when it travels from Africa to Paris where it will be introduced to Europe later this year.
